Kindergarten – St. Mary’s English Medium School
Children join the Kindergarten with diverse backgrounds and varied home or pre-school experiences. Many are already familiar with television, mobile applications, and digital media. While such exposure provides access to information and early academic awareness, at St. Mary’s English Medium School, our primary focus is the holistic development of the child.
Our Kindergarten follows a child-centred learning approach, where each child’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth is given equal importance. We provide a warm, safe, and flexible learning environment that encourages children to explore, discover, question, and learn through meaningful experiences.
Learning at St. Mary’s Kindergarten is integrated and activity-based, enabling children to develop positive social behaviour, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and effective communication. Children are encouraged to observe the world around them, classify and organize information, build concepts, and extend their existing knowledge through hands-on learning.
Play is the foundation of our Kindergarten programme. Inspired by the educational philosophy of Jean Piaget, we believe that children learn best when they actively participate in their environment. Through guided play and structured activities, children become enthusiastic learners—little explorers who learn by doing rather than passive listening.
The early years are formative, much like clay in a potter’s hands. With care, guidance, and nurturing, we aim to mould our young learners into confident, responsible, and compassionate individuals.

Key Components of Our Kindergarten Programme
A. Art
Art activities allow children to explore, discover, and express their perceptions of the world and themselves. Emphasis is placed on the creative process rather than the final product, supporting overall personality development.
B. Music
Children are trained to respond to rhythm, melody, and mood. Songs combined with movement and dance help enhance speech development, listening skills, and emotional expression.
C. Language
We follow a phonetic approach to language learning, supporting listening, speaking, reading, and early writing skills. Role play, storytelling, retelling, and illustration encourage confident communication and imagination.
D. Everyday Science
Children observe weather and seasonal changes, explore their five senses, and learn about living beings through simple classification. Healthy routines, food habits, and hygiene awareness are integral parts of learning.
E. Mathematics
Children are introduced to basic numerical concepts through everyday experiences such as money, time, calendar, temperature, shapes, patterns, and measurement using non-standard units. Songs and rhymes reinforce learning joyfully.
F. Physical Training
Physical activities promote coordination, balance, cooperation, and teamwork. Fun games involving balls, movement, and group play help children achieve physical fitness and emotional well-being.
Field Trips
Educational field trips are planned to enhance real-life learning experiences and help children connect classroom concepts with the outside world.
